The novel diode-pumped solid-state laser offers high power in an extremely compact design. The laser was originally developed for the ignition of fuel/air mixtures in motors and other combustion chambers. It was then redesigned to match the demands of the space industry (laser ignition of space launch vehicles). The laser fulfils stringent requirements in terms of high focal power density, internal alignment, and operating reliability at elevated temperatures and high vibration levels. The lean and cost-effective design compared to previous versions makes the novel laser interesting for minimally destructive analyses, engraving and marking, and ablation.
